How often should I groom my dog?
Much like a human haircut, dogs need regular grooming if they are to experience good coat health and skin conditions.
Generally most breeds should come in between 6 – 12 weeks. Ask about a regular grooming slot with us.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you do not show up for your appointment or cancel last minute, we lose an additional customer who could’ve taken your grooming slot. Therefore we have a strict cancellation policy to protect our groomers and make sure that other clients have that chance to get their dog looked after.
PLEASE NOTE: If necessary, cancel your appointment as soon as you feel you need to, either through the website or by the confirmation email – or simply by phoning the Salon on 0131 281 2351 or TEXT 07578 143949
Late cancellations will be charged at 50% of the appointment rate.
What kind of products do you use?
We use Earthbath® products because they’re cruelty free and contain no animal ingredients or nasty byproducts. They’re natural, organic and contain no artificial colours AND they’re a #1 selling shampoo brand.
We also use Wahl® products because we feel they’re the best products.
Please let us know if you have a preference or your dog suffers from allergies.
What if my dog is really matted?
Chance are if your dog is really matted, we will need to shave the dog down and your dog grooming care will start all over again as the dogs coat grows in.
Matted fur does not allow for air circulation to the skin. This can cause hot spots, bacterial and fungal infections – not to mention all sorts of nasties like ticks, fleas, maggots and other parasites. The list of problems continue and thus the most sensitive action to take, is to shave the dog; a very short clip and remove all the matting.
There may be signs of irritation after the groom, either from the matted coat and/or the grooming process. It might be necessary to use a medicated shampoo afterwards. The dog groomer is very careful but occasional nicks or scratches may happen unavoidably through working so close to the skin.
When can I bring my puppy in for its first groom?
We would recommend as soon as possible – more so they can get used to and enjoy the Salon and grooming experience.
However regular grooming will be dependant upon on breed and when we know your puppy, we will be able to suggest to you a regular grooming regime. Once they have had their last set of vaccinations, give it a couple of weeks and then there’s no reason why they can’t come in, experience some fun, some smells and some affection. Who doesn’t love a visiting puppy!
We want your pup visits to be stress free and future grooming will be easier and more relaxed if your puppy is familiar with the surroundings.
If my dog is aggressive, will you still provide a groom?
This is a biggie and many groomers won’t enjoy handling aggressive dogs. Keeping an animal calm is part of a groomer’s experience and knowing how to handle your pet will make things easier. We suggest full disclosure with your groomer about your dogs behaviour. We have muzzles and generally they’re only used if necessary and for the least amount of time as possible. With full disclosure we can agree on a solution together.
Can I stay with my dog during the groom?
be We’re sorry, generally we won’t allow it. Simply put, dogs are calmer and better behaved when the owner is not present. However, as with all things, this is not hard and fast rule. Usually a dog will so focussed on the owner that it’ll disrupt the grooming process making life difficult for both the dog and groomer.
We use very sharp equipment around your dogs eyes another delicate parts of the body, any distraction could ultimately be a problem.
Does my dog need to be fully vaccinated?
Yes! It’s in the best interest for your dog and the other dogs that come to the Salon.
Please bring a copy of the vaccination records for us too.
Do you provide a day care for dogs?
No. We are a small space and cannot accept dogs all day.
We expect them to be picked up as soon as possible their appointment. Dogs not picked up within a reasonable time will have to be in a crate until you arrive.
If you plan to leave your dog for a long time we will have to charge an additional fee as our grooming space is limited. We can call you 20-30 minutes before the dog is finished to ensure your dog is in your company again as soon as possible.
